Tutorial: Painting Death Company Armour

For this tutorial we’ll be showing you how we paint the black armour for our Blood Angels army. We’ll be using a Death Company Marine for this tutorial but you can follow the same steps for any unit you’d like to have black armour. Lets get started!

Paints used:

Black Primer
Army Painter Matt Black
Corvus Black
Mechanicus Standard Grey
Dawnstone

Equipment used:

H&S Evolution AL Plus Airbrush
Windsor and Newton Series 7 Size 0 Brush

1. After undercoating with a Black Primer basecoat the model with Army Painter Matt Black.
2. Using Corvus Black give all of the armour panels a chunky edge highlight. This should be purposfully thicker than a normal edge highlight so don’t worry if you’re not too precise.
3. Edge highlight the armour panels using Mechanicus Standard Grey. This highlight should be thinner than the previous one to create a natural blend between the grey highlights and the black base colour.
4. Edge highlight the upper, more prominent, areas of the armour panels with Dawnstone.

With that the armour’s all finished. Now all that’s left to do is paint the rest of the details and your model will be ready to hit the battlefield.
