Concept and Construction

The base model
For this commission I was asked Ito convert an Avatars of War Orc Hero into a 40k Ork Warboss. The client said he's not sure if he wants me to paint it or if he wants to do it himself and he'll decide when it's done.

While I much prefer the painting aspect of the hobby I'm not going to miss the chance to work on such an awesome model.

Building the base
The client wants the model to keep much of the same look such as the armour, head and cape but wants it to be equipped with a large power klaw and a twin linked shoota. He also wanted it to have a rubble/city fight base but other than that I have a bit of free reign.

So the first thing I set to doing was ordering in the model itself and some other parts and then built up the base. As the model has a raised foot the base had to be built up to accommodate so a quick raid of the bits box and some pva and sand and I've come up with the following:

Construction Begins
I next began work on the Ork Warboss himself. Firstly I removed the Warboss's right arm from the model using a combination of a jewelers saw and an industrial grinder this was a lot of work in itself especially making sure the cloak wasn't damaged.

My client had asked for a very large power klaw so I immediately thought of Ghazis claw and made room in the model to accommodate that. So after a good while of sawing and grinding and then finally somw drilling to allow for the arm to be pinned the Warboss was up to this point.

Adding the Gun
Next I converted the arm holding his twin linked shoota. This involved cutting off the hand of the arm aswell as sawing and grinding away the length of the axe that ran down his arm.

I then took the hand from an Ork Nob and the shoota from an Attack on Black Reach Warboss and after lots of cutting and filing attached them all together.

Scuplting and Iron Gob
Next I began some detailing work. Firstly I worked on the head adding a plasticard irongob and a bionic eye. Then I began filling in some of the gabs on the model with greenstuff as well as sculpting some extra cloak and changing some of the musculature to accommodate the models new pose. The wrist guard on his left arm was also re-done now that the axe haft had been removed.

Build Completed
In this stage the final parts of the build were dealt with. This involved adding some armour plates to the shoota and to the power klaw aswell as adding rivets to all the plasticard work and drilling out the gun barrels.

The Warboss is now completed and ready for the clients final say to see if he wants anything changed or added.
